Job Description
Purpose of the Role
To safeguard the financial interests of the bank, using expertise and diligence to maintain tax compliance, mitigate tax risks and ensure tax is appropriately reflected in the Group’s financial planning and external financial reporting.
Accountabilities
- Preparation or review of relevant tax returns in accordance with applicable tax law and agreeing compliance positions with the tax authorities.
- Preparation or review of tax accounting calculations and disclosures in accordance with applicable accounting standards for group forecasting, reporting and stress testing.
- Provision of technical insight, analysis and conclusions on a variety of tax technical areas to determine appropriate tax treatment.
- Analysis of relevant developments in tax law to ensure the impact on Barclays is understood and appropriately managed.
- Design and operation of tax process controls to ensure tax risk is appropriately managed and tax treatments can be supported.

- To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions.
- Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function. Set objectives and coach employees in pursuit of those objectives, appraisal of performance relative to objectives and determination of reward outcomes.
Day-to-Day Accountabilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Coordinate with Finance, Group Tax and external advisers to ensure accurate and timely tax filings.
- Support tax authority enquiries, audits and information requests.

Tax Advisory
- Provide tax guidance on new products, commercial arrangements, contracts, pricing structures and business initiatives.
- Assess operational processes and business changes to identify tax implications, risks and planning opportunities.
Employment Taxes
- Support employment tax matters including PAYE, PSA, STBV, international assignments and cross-border working.
- Partner with HR, Payroll and advisers to manage employment tax risks relating to remote working, secondments, business travel and employee mobility.
Risk & Governance
- Maintain tax risk registers and support the operation of tax controls and governance frameworks.
- Drive process improvements, automation initiatives and robust documentation to support compliance and technical tax positions.

Barclays will invest approximately £400m in the new business, the majority of which will be incurred during the first three years. Performance-linked incentives will drive greater alignment between the partners, underpinning the long-term commitment to the transformation. Barclays and Brookfield will work to create a standalone entity over time, continuing to use the Barclaycard Payments (BPL) brand and acting as the sole payments acceptance services provider to Barclays’ clients for a minimum of ten years.

Requirements
- Professional tax qualification (ACA, ACCA, CTA or equivalent).
- Strong experience in UK corporation tax, VAT and/or employment taxes.
- Experience working within financial services, payments, fintech, banking or a similarly regulated environment.
- Ability to interpret technical tax legislation and apply it to commercial situations.
Highly Valued Skills
- Experience within payments, acquiring, card or fintech businesses.
- Knowledge of transfer pricing principles.
- Experience with R&D tax incentives and Patent Box.
- Understanding of international tax and withholding tax issues.
- Experience of Oracle related transformation, tax technology, workflow automation and process improvement.
- Exposure to tax aspects of legal entity restructurings, outsourcing arrangements and operating model changes.
