Tax Manager

Solihull | £60,000

Trevor James Recruitment is currently working with a well-established accountancy firm in Solihull who are looking to appoint an experienced Tax Manager to take responsibility for the Personal Tax function within their office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious personal tax professional looking to take the next step in their career, with responsibility for a sizeable and varied client portfolio, including HNWIs and trusts.

Reporting directly to the three Directors, you will play a key role in overseeing the Personal Tax department, providing high-level technical advice and ensuring the team continues to deliver an excellent service to clients.

The Role

As Tax Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing personal tax compliance for approximately 800 clients, including HNWIs and trusts.
  • Providing complex tax technical advice to clients and colleagues across income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax planning.
  • Ensuring statutory tax filing deadlines and client expectations are consistently met.
  • Monitoring tax return completion and keeping the Directors updated on departmental progress.
  • Maintaining and developing your technical tax knowledge, keeping up to date with changes in legislation.
  • Managing WIP, billing and recoverability across the Personal Tax department.
  • Overseeing and supporting the Personal Tax team, including reviewing work and providing assistance with technical matters.
  • Conducting staff appraisals and supporting the development of the wider team.
  • Working closely with the Directors on the ongoing development of the Personal Tax function.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally:

  • Be CTA or ATT qualified, or have equivalent experience within personal tax.
  • Have strong technical knowledge across personal taxation.
  • Have experience dealing with complex personal tax matters, HNWIs and/or trusts.
  • Be confident interpreting and applying complex tax legislation.
  • Have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess strong communication and client management skills.
  • Be highly organised with excellent time management and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Have previous experience of supervising, reviewing or managing members of a tax team.
