Purpose of Role
- Provide strategic tax leadership, advice, support, and assurance for Harbour Energy’s tax positions in the UK, Norway, and Germany.
- Act as the European tax focal point for business partnering, tax risk management, commercial decision support, compliance oversight, forecasting, controls, and continuous improvement.
- Support value creation across the portfolio through proactive identification of tax risks, opportunities, and structuring considerations associated with transactions, reorganisations, and strategic business initiatives.
Critical Responsibilities
- Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation, and Harbour Energy HSES Procedures.

Ethics and Compliance Responsibilities
- Ensure that all activities and behaviours are carried out in accordance with Harbour Energy’s Ethics and Compliance Policies and Procedures, and to complete any compulsory compliance training as required.
Areas of Accountability, Responsibility, and Competence
Europe
- Provide strategic tax oversight, assurance, and support to Harbour operations across Europe.
- UK BU tax team
- German BU tax team
- Norway BU tax team
- Proactively manage the position to mitigate any tax leakage which would arise on remittance of profits, restructuring activity, transactions, or a future divestment.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the relevant tax regimes across the region, monitor legislative and policy developments, and share insights with the wider tax team.
- Maintain strong relationships with business unit leadership and business unit teams.
- Review and assure business unit tax reporting, including tax forecasts, provisions, returns, payments, and uncertain tax positions in accordance with the tax delegation of authority.
- Provide senior tax oversight and coordination for acquisitions, divestments, farm-ins, farm-outs, joint ventures, reorganisations, and other strategic transactions across the European portfolio, including due diligence, structuring, financing, execution, and post-completion integration.
- Partner with Business Development, Legal, Finance, and external advisers to identify transaction risks and opportunities, providing commercially focused tax advice that supports value creation and protects Harbour's interests.
- Support in-country lobbying, policy engagement, and tax authority relationship strategies where relevant to Harbour’s interests.
- Monitor in-country tax risks and disputes, working with advisers, governments, and relevant tax authorities to resolve issues effectively and in line with Harbour values.
- Liaising with the Group Reporting and Forecasting Team as required.
- Working with the Accounting and Compliance Team and Transfer Pricing Specialists to ensure appropriate transfer pricing management.
- Identify and develop tax planning opportunities that support Harbour's commercial objectives, portfolio optimisation activities, and long-term value creation strategy, whilst operating within Harbour's tax governance framework and values.

- Continually challenge the status quo and look for ways to enhance ways of working, processes, and systems.
- Work collaboratively with the VP - Tax and other Tax Leads to ensure the provision of a holistic Corporate Tax function.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by your manager.
Critical Skills, Qualifications, Experience, etc.
- A university degree and a recognised higher-level accountancy or taxation professional qualification (CA and/or Chartered Tax Adviser).
- A high degree of specialist knowledge and competence in UK and international taxation.
- Experience working with oil taxes in UK, Germany, or Norway preferred.
- Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, and business development activities, including tax due diligence, transaction structuring, and integration planning preferred.
- Leadership and managerial experience.
- Track record with a recognised accountancy firm highly desirable.
- Understanding of complex accounting.
- A strong intellect and analytical ability.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of tax software, data analytics, and digital workflow tools desirable.
- Awareness of Harbour Energy HSEQ Policies and Business Management System (BMS).
- Awareness of Harbour Energy Values & Business Principles.
