Gresham Hunt are pleased to be partnering with an impressive FTSE 250 business to find an experienced Tax Manager. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified tax professional to join a large, listed multi-channel retail business. Our client has built a genuinely collaborative, down-to-earth culture, and this role sits at the heart of their finance function.
The Role
Reporting to and deputising for the Head of Tax, you'll take ownership of direct and indirect tax compliance across the group, while building strong working relationships with senior stakeholders including the CFO and Group Finance Director. You'll also act as the key point of contact with HMRC on day-to-day matters.

Key responsibilities include:
- VAT compliance – end-to-end data extraction, reconciliation, and preparation of quarterly VAT returns; MTD compliance
- Corporate tax – preparing group corporation tax computations, including detailed capital allowances analysis for a large property portfolio
- Tax accounting & provisioning – current and deferred tax provisions, temporary differences, and Effective Tax Rate calculations under UK GAAP and IFRS
- Cash tax forecasting – monitoring and executing Quarterly Instalment Payments
- Broader compliance – CIS returns, payroll taxes, benefits-in-kind, import-related VAT advice
- HMRC relationship management – supporting Business Risk Reviews, enquiries and audits
- Ledger reconciliations – owning month-end/year-end tax account reconciliations
- Project support – tax input on business change and IT projects through to UAT

What Our Client Is Looking For
- CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification
- 3+ years' tax experience within a large listed business
- Strong UK corporate tax background, with proven experience of fixed assets and capital allowances
- Commercially minded with sharp technical tax knowledge
- Highly accurate, well organised, and comfortable prioritising in a fast-paced environment
- Confident communicator, collaborative and proactive in style
- Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills
