About ilumis

ilumis is a fast-growing consultancy specialising in tax, technology and transformation.

We work with some of the world's largest and most interesting businesses, helping their tax and finance teams rethink how they work. That might mean redesigning a process, implementing new technology, using data and AI to solve a problem, or helping a team work out what the future should look like.

We're a small, ambitious team based in Manchester. That means you'll work alongside experienced consultants, including our founders, and with our clients from very early in your career.

We're now looking for someone exceptional to join us at the beginning of their journey.

Who we're looking for

You might be finishing A-levels, have recently left sixth form or college, or have just graduated from university. We're deliberately not looking for a particular degree, subject or previous experience. We're looking for grit, curiosity and potential.

You'll probably be someone who:

  • Is bright and loves figuring things out
  • Is naturally curious and asks good questions
  • Works hard and has real grit when something is difficult
  • Learns quickly and actively seeks feedback
  • Is organised and takes responsibility for getting things done
  • Is confident enough to contribute, but humble enough to know there's lots to learn
  • Communicates clearly and enjoys working with people
  • Is excited by technology, data and AI
  • Wants a career where you'll be challenged and develop quickly

You don't need to know anything about tax yet. We'll teach you.

What you'll actually do

There isn't a standard day at ilumis. One week you might be helping map how a global company's tax process works. The next you could be analysing data, researching a new technology, building something in one of our digital tools or preparing for a client workshop.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

As you develop, you'll get involved in things like:

  • Client projects. Working alongside our team to understand client problems, analyse information and help develop solutions.
  • Technology & AI. Learning how businesses use technology, automation, data and AI, and helping us experiment with new ways of solving problems.
  • Process improvement. Understanding how something works today, spotting what's inefficient or difficult, and helping design a better way.
  • Research & problem solving. Getting to grips with unfamiliar topics quickly and turning lots of information into something useful.
  • Building ilumis. We're still a young business. You'll have opportunities to contribute ideas and help build our products, tools, ways of working and culture.

What you'll learn

A lot. You'll learn about consulting, business, tax, finance, technology, AI, data, project delivery and how large organisations actually operate. More importantly, you'll learn how to break down complicated problems, communicate with senior people and turn ideas into things that work.

We'll give you structured development and support, alongside significant exposure to experienced members of the team.

We'll also agree the right professional development and qualification pathway with you depending on your starting point and career goals. Our team are generally ACA and / or CTA qualified.

Why join us?

Because you won't be one of hundreds of people on a graduate intake. You'll know everyone in the business. You'll work directly with senior people. You'll see how decisions get made. You'll be trusted with real responsibility.

That comes with expectations too. We're growing quickly and we care enormously about the quality of our work. We'll expect you to be curious, take ownership, ask when you don't understand something and keep pushing yourself to improve.

If you're looking for somewhere comfortable where you can disappear into a large intake, ilumis probably isn't for you. If you want to learn quickly and see how far you can go, we'd love to meet you.

Qualifications

For school/college leavers, we'd expect strong A-levels (or equivalent).

For graduates, we'd expect a strong academic record, but we're open to any degree discipline.

Academic results matter to us, but they're only part of the picture. We're interested in what you've done outside the classroom too - jobs, sport, volunteering, caring responsibilities, side projects, societies or anything else that demonstrates curiosity, resilience, initiative or commitment.

Our recruitment process

We don't want you to spend weeks preparing for an assessment centre. We'll start with a conversation to get to know you. If there's a good fit, we'll give you a short, practical problem to work through. We're much more interested in how you think than whether you already know the answer. You'll then spend some time with the ilumis team in Manchester so you can get to know us — and decide whether we're the right place for you too.

Interested?

Send us your CV and answer two questions. Keep it short - we're interested in what you say, not how much you write. Send to lucibeth@ilumis.co.uk.

  • Why ilumis? What is it about us, rather than another graduate or school-leaver opportunity, that makes you want to join?
  • What's the hardest you've ever worked for something? Tell us what it was, why it mattered to you, and what you did to make it happen.

There's no right or wrong answer. We're looking for evidence of how you think, respond to setbacks and get things done.
