Training & Competence Manager
London (Hybrid) | £70,000 – £80,000 plus bonus and benefits
We are working with a highly regarded UK investment management firm to recruit a Training & Competence Manager to support their Private Wealth business from their London office.
Our client is an independent investment manager offering a range of investment solutions to individuals, trusts and corporations, including multi-asset portfolios, individual funds and thematic products. The firm is well known for its focus on innovation and its use of technology to give clients a modern, personalised investment experience.
The Role
This is a hands-on role owning the practical delivery of the Training & Competence framework. You will run the day-to-day T&C activity for Advisers and other regulated and client-facing roles, carry out the competence assessments yourself, keep the records straight and deliver the feedback - working closely with Private Wealth, Compliance and People to keep standards consistent across advice and professional development.
The assessment side is genuinely practical rather than desk-based. It covers role plays, live and recorded observations of client meetings, product and knowledge testing, CPD log reviews, and the evidence behind initial and ongoing competence, feeding into FCA Certification sign-off and the annual SM&CR certification process.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
