The Shirestone Academy
Purpose of the Role
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, committed, and exemplary practitioner to the post of Year 1 Class Teacher (maternity cover). This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and inspiring teacher to join our amazing team at Shirestone Academy.
The successful candidate will be able to deliver high-quality lessons, demonstrating consistently strong teaching and a commitment to ensuring that every child reaches their full potential. The post would suit someone with a genuine passion for teaching who is keen to develop confident, enthusiastic, and independent learners, and who is receptive to coaching, feedback, and continued professional development.
We are looking for someone with a secure foundation of curriculum knowledge who can demonstrate a positive impact in previous teaching roles or placements. Experience of teaching phonics and early reading is particularly desirable, ideally with experience of the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme.
We would also warmly welcome applications from Early Career Teachers (ECTs) who can demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment, and a willingness to learn and develop within a supportive school environment.

Specific Responsibilities
We are looking for a dedicated, motivated, and knowledgeable individual who:
- Will be an excellent classroom practitioner
- Has a passionate commitment to meeting the academic and pastoral needs of all students
- Has good interpersonal and organizational skills to enable them to work well as a member of the Shirestone team
- Is able to demonstrate an ability to use data meaningfully to enhance pupil progress and maintain the highest possible standards
- Has highly effective communication skills and demonstrates compassion, professionalism, and maturity when liaising with pupils, parents, the multi-academy trust, and other stakeholders
- Has a good understanding of assessment and curriculum
- Has a good understanding of the wider curriculum and able to show impact
- Is willing to collaborate on continuous professional learning opportunities for all staff within the Trust
- Will develop and implement a pedagogy programme for all teachers irrespective of their experience in teaching to support and develop their practice through the school’s teaching and learning priorities
