Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Teacher of Art on a part-time (0.6 FTE) fixed-term contract, starting January 2027, or earlier if possible, and ending in December 2027.
Role Specification
The College is seeking an outstanding artist and teacher who can communicate their own skills, expertise and passion for the visual arts, inspiring pupils to realise their full potential as artists. The successful candidate will encourage pupils to develop confidence, technical proficiency and originality in their artistic practice, while fostering a lifelong appreciation of the visual arts. They will contribute to a culture of intellectual curiosity, academic excellence, and creative achievement. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Art across the curriculum, from Year 7 to A-level, and will be expected to contribute towards the department’s extension programme, including a willingness to support pupils with applications to leading Art Colleges.

The Art Department is also busy outside the timetable and there are evening sessions and daily activity slots, which are a popular time for pupils to visit the studios. The successful candidate will be expected to take a share of the supervision of these daily and at times weekend extracurricular activities.
Additionally, all teachers at Brighton College are expected to contribute to the school’s pastoral system, generally as a tutor in one of our 16 houses (of which six are boarding houses and ten are day).
There is also an expectation that all teachers will contribute to the cocurricular life of the school, through the extensive Games programme, and/or through the leadership of one of over 100 school societies.

Candidates are encouraged to point to interests and enthusiasms as part of their application. All staff have the opportunity to contribute to our Masterclass programme; this is a series of weekly lessons designed to celebrate the enjoyment of learning, focusing on an area of personal academic or cultural interest. These have included subjects such as Magical Realism, Cuisine and Culture and Great Debates in History.
All teachers joining Brighton will have the benefit of guidance by an experienced mentor, whose role it will be to provide support during their probationary period. Thereafter, all teachers are expected and supported to participate in continuous professional development, throughout their time at the College.
