Teacher of English

Whitchurch, Shropshire (SY13)

Salary:
Qualified Teacher: £33,000 to £36,000 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience)
Unqualified Teacher: £23,393 to £32,000 per annum (depending on qualifications, experience and performance)

Contract: Permanent
Start Date: 1 September 2026
Phase: Secondary (KS3, KS4 and KS5)
Annual Leave: 10 weeks paid school holiday leave (50 days)

Make a Difference Through Therapeutic Education

We are a specialist independent school supporting up to 45 young people aged 11 to 18. We provide a therapeutic, trauma-informed education for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and those who have experienced significant adversity.

We are seeking a passionate and resilient Teacher of English to join our dedicated team. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people by helping them develop confidence, achieve qualifications and build positive futures.

About The Role

You will deliver engaging, differentiated English lessons across a range of qualification pathways, including:

  • Entry Level
  • Functional Skills
  • GCSE English
  • Other qualifications tailored to individual learner needs

Our learners require a flexible and personalised approach, and teaching may take place in whole-class groups, small groups, intervention sessions and one-to-one settings.

The ability to teach an additional subject would be advantageous but is not essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality English lessons.
  • Support students to achieve personal, social and academic progress.
  • Assess, monitor and report on student attainment and development.
  • Develop lesson plans, schemes of work and learning programmes tailored to individual needs.
  • Create a safe, positive and stimulating learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, carers and external professionals.
  • Contribute to educational visits, enrichment activities and wider school life.
  • Support pupils' wellbeing, aspirations and future career development.
  • Maintain high professional standards in line with Teachers' Standards, Independent School Standards and Ofsted expectations.
