About The Role

This is a full-time position starting in September, perfect for a dedicated Science specialist. The successful candidate will teach Science across Key Stages 3 and 4 (with opportunities to utilise a specialism in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics), delivering a knowledge-rich curriculum designed to foster deep analytical thinking and investigative skills. The role involves inspiring students of all abilities, guiding safe and engaging practical work, and driving academic achievement within a highly collaborative and structured department.

Key Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Holds QTS, QTLS, or an equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification.
  • Enhanced DBS: A valid Enhanced DBS clearance registered on the Update Service (or a willingness for one).
  • Curriculum Knowledge: Up-to-date knowledge of current educational frameworks and GCSE Science exam board specifications (Combined and Separate Sciences).
  • Eligibility to Work: Valid legal entitlement to work full-time in the UK.

Key Skills

  • Advanced Subject Knowledge: Deep understanding of the UK National Curriculum for Science (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics).
  • Behaviour Management: Ability to implement positive behaviour strategies to maintain a focused, safe learning environment, particularly during lab work.
  • Differentiated Instruction: Skill in tailoring lessons to accommodate diverse learning needs, including SEND and EAL students, ensuring science is accessible to all.
  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in tracking student progress data to identify learning gaps and implement targeted interventions.
  • Formative Assessment: Expertise in utilising live marking, retrieval practice, and verbal feedback to push student progress.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for explaining complex abstract concepts and engaging students, parents, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging Science lessons that challenge all students.
  • Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of assigned pupils.
  • Set high expectations for student behaviour, maintaining a purposeful, organised, and safe laboratory climate.
  • Contribute to the development and review of the department's schemes of work and practical resources.
  • Participate in parents evenings, departmental meetings, and whole-school training days.
  • Act as a Form Tutor, providing pastoral care and supporting the holistic development of students.
  • Identify students requiring extra support and implement targeted interventions to boost achievement in core and triple sciences.
  • Uphold and implement all school and Trust policies, with strict adherence to health and safety (CLEAPSS) regulations.
  • Mark students' work regularly in line with the school's feedback and assessment policy.
  • Engage continuously in professional development to refine and improve teaching practice.
