About This Role
KEY PURPOSE
The post-holder will provide high-quality coaching, specialist pedagogical support and quality assurance activity to selected teachers and teams with the aim of making high-quality practice the consistent standard across the academy;
- Principally, to work closely with selected members of teaching staff requiring additional coaching and developmental feedback in order to develop the strength of their practice;
- To conduct and respond to Quality Assurance across the academy, sharing findings and hypotheses with Deputy Head T&L;
- To work closely with Deputy Head T&L in developing pedagogical and domain-specific expertise through personalised CPD and training.

Principal Responsibilities
Strategic direction and development
- Work closely with the Deputy Head (Teaching & Learning) to translate academy priorities and the school’s vision and values into coherent, high-impact coaching and CPD programmes.
- Contribute to the academy’s teaching and learning strategy, ensuring alignment with whole-school curriculum plans and improvement priorities.
- Act as a visible advocate for high-quality teaching and learning across the academy.

Targeted Coaching and Teacher Development (Core Purpose)
- Provide bespoke, sustained coaching and developmental feedback to selected teaching staff requiring additional support or seeking professional growth, using evidence-informed coaching methods.
- Establish clear, measurable goals for coachees, agree timescales and monitor progress, adapting support where necessary.
- Model high-quality practice in the classroom and team settings, demonstrating effective explanations, modelling, questioning and scaffolding.
- Support colleagues to plan sequences of learning that build foundational knowledge, include retrieval and spaced practice, and promote fluency and application.
- Facilitate reflective professional dialogue with teachers to strengthen subject- and domain-specific pedagogy.
Quality Assurance, Evaluation and Improvement
- Conduct and respond to quality assurance activity across the academy (lesson visits, learning walks, work scrutiny, assessment reviews), producing clear findings and evidence-based hypotheses about strengths and development needs.
- Share findings and hypotheses promptly and constructively with the Deputy Head (T&L), middle leaders and relevant staff, contributing to school improvement planning.
- Support middle leaders to interpret QA evidence and turn it into coherent action plans, monitoring the impact of interventions.
Curriculum and Pedagogical Development
- Support the development and dissemination of subject-specific and cross-curricular teaching approaches that reflect current evidence (e.g., modelling cognitive processes, breaking tasks into component parts, interleaving concrete and abstract examples).
- Collaborate with subject leads to develop exemplar materials, lesson sequences and assessments that support consistent outcomes across year groups.
- Promote whole-school literacy strategies and support staff to use question types and discussion scaffolds that deepen student thinking and subject understanding.

Professional Learning and Capacity Building
- Design, deliver and evaluate personalised CPD, training sessions and professional learning communities that address identified needs and build sustainable expertise across the academy.
- Provide mentoring, coaching and peer observation structures that enable teachers to share effective practice and accelerate professional growth.
- Support the appraisal process for staff being coached, providing evidence and contributing to professional judgements where required.
Collaboration, Inclusion and Student Outcomes
- Foster inclusive teaching practices that respond to the strengths and needs of all students, with particular attention to those from disadvantaged backgrounds and students with additional needs.
- Work with pastoral and SEND teams where relevant to ensure coaching supports access, engagement and progress for all students.
- Use assessment information to focus coaching and classroom strategies on improving student achievement and reducing attainment gaps.
Duties

- Participate in staff meetings, leadership briefings and other whole-school events as required.
- Maintain high standards of professional conduct, modelling the academy’s values and expectations.
