Company Description

Nova City Alternative Provision is a social enterprise dedicated to improving the life chances of children in South Yorkshire. Role Description

The Teaching Assistant will play a pivotal role in all aspects of the Alternative Provision at NovaCity. You will help to implement individual learning plans, reinforcing core subjects and life skills in small-group and one-to-one settings. Daily responsibilities include assisting with classroom preparation, meal preparation, providing learning and behavioral support, monitoring student progress, and contributing to a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. The role also involves building positive relationships with children, collaborating with colleagues and external professionals, and supporting the re-engagement and well-being of learners through consistent encouragement and clear communication.

  • Candidates should possess strong Assistant Teaching and Education skills, with experience supporting learning in classroom or alternative provision settings.
  • Candidates should possess effective Communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with children, colleagues, and families.
  • Candidates should possess competence in Mathematics and core academic support to help learners achieve key qualifications.
  • Candidates should possess experience Working With Children, including an understanding of safeguarding, behaviour support, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant certificate or equivalent are beneficial.
  • Knowledge of special educational needs, social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, and alternative provision environments is advantageous.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, use restorative approaches, and maintain professional boundaries is important.
  • An enhanced DBS check, driving licence with access to your own vehicle, and eligibility to work in the UK are required.
