ROLE SUMMARY:

Chepstow House School is an established 3-form entry, Coed Prep with a nursery attached and outstanding facilities within the Notting Hill Gate area. It is a growing school offering opportunities for staff development and career progression.

The school aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that enables each child to achieve their full potential in a happy and caring environment. Chepstow House aims to discover the best in every child and challenge them to go beyond their expectations.

Chepstow House School is currently looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Teaching Assistant to join our team from September 2026. The working hours are 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. You may have one or two days a week where additional time is needed after school to assist with clubs. These duties will take place beyond the stated school hours.

The Teaching Assistant will be expected to:

  • Interact and support children (under direction of the teacher) in a positive way to foster their enthusiasm for learning.
  • Work with the class teacher in preparing work, putting up displays and assisting as required within the classroom.
  • Supervise breaks and lunchtime play.
  • Take responsibility for hearing the children read on a daily basis or as part of the guided reading.
  • If necessary, update individual reading records and monitor progress alongside the class teacher.
  • Conduct lessons (if required) according to the agreed policy and syllabus.
  • Contribute fully to the extracurricular activities and life of the school.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Morning duties: Ensuring that all children are safe in the classroom/hall/playground and never unsupervised and that they do not leave the classroom/hall/playground without prior permission. Setting up the classroom/playground between 8:00am and 8:30am and being constantly aware of the children and not being distracted by other activities which could lead to negligence.
  • Children’s lunch and playtime duties: Responsibility for supervising playtime, where in handling behaviour and disputes needs to be managed before children return to class.
  • Reading reception and KS1 duties: Hearing each child read every day or take guided reading groups, as requested by the class teacher. Making sure the reading scheme is kept in good order and the reading files are up to date on each child.
  • Reading KS2 duties: Hearing individual children read, where requested by the class teacher and playing reading and/or spelling games with individual children as directed by the teacher.
  • End of the day duties: Ensure that reading folders go home with the children every day with a new book, if one is required, and any homework or letters. Ensure the children leave the school properly dressed in their hats, blazers/coats, check the cloakroom area is left tidy.
  • Other duties: Plan and teach some lessons supervised by the class teacher, attend staff meetings and staff training, help the teacher with support groups, carry out other related duties and responsibilities at the school as may be reasonably allocated, as the need arises, by the class teacher, head TA, deputy or head teacher. Contribute to and participate in team planning, self-evaluation, in-service training and professional development in assigned areas of the curriculum and pastoral arrangements.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Have an enhanced DBS and prohibition order clearance.
  • Be aware of and follow the safeguarding, Prevent Duty, anti-bullying, and behaviour and discipline policies of the school.
  • Promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
  • Be committed to making a difference to all children of all abilities and talents, using a variety of teaching styles to aid learning.
  • Be a committed, dynamic, and proactive teaching assistant and a cheerful, friendly, and cooperative team member.
  • Be supportive and positive in their interactions with team members and pupils.
  • Maintain excellent levels of appearance, attendance, and punctuality.
  • Involve themselves fully in the life of the school.
  • Value, and be willing to promote, the caring ethos of the school.
