Role: Teaching Assistant

Location: M20, Manchester

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday

Pay: GBP14.25 TO GBP16.65 per hour

Start Date: Sept

Contract: Long-term, ongoing (with potential to become permanent)


Reeson Education is seeking a resilient, flexible, and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a busy and supportive Primary PRU in the M20 area. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children with a wide range of complex needs.

As a Teaching Assistant in this Primary PRU, you will be working with pupils who present with a variety of needs including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, behavioural challenges, trauma, SLD, and other additional learning requirements. The setting is looking for a committed Teaching Assistant who can adapt to different situations, remain calm under pressure, and build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.

Teaching Assistant Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support as a Teaching Assistant across all year groups.
  • Assist in delivering tailored interventions to meet pupils social, emotional, and academic needs.
  • Support pupils with behavioural challenges using de-escalation and positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Help pupils engage with learning in a safe and structured environment as a Teaching Assistant.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to develop and implement individualised learning plans.
  • Provide consistent encouragement and build positive relationships with pupils.
  • Assist with daily routines and transitions to ensure smooth running of the school day.
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and external professionals as a Teaching Assistant.
  • Be a reliable and supportive presence within the PRU setting.

Teaching Assistant Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within a PRU, SEN, or SEMH setting.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and a range of additional needs.
  • Resilient, patient, and adaptable approach.
  • Confident in managing challenging behaviour and supporting children affected by trauma.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness).
  • Full commitment to a long-term role as a Teaching Assistant.
