Teaching Assistant Apprentice
Healing Academy, part of the Harbour Learning Trust, is looking for a Teaching Assistant Apprentice. This is an incredibly rewarding and varied role where you’ll have the opportunity to make a genuine difference to the life of a child.
Wage £13,520 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
Training course Teaching assistant (level 3)
Hours Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm. 32 hours 30 minutes a week

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Delivering tailored learning activities to pupils individually or in small groups.
- Supporting your allocated pupil throughout the school day and helping them engage with their learning.
- Encouraging pupils to remain focused and engaged during lessons and activities.
- Listening to pupils read and reading with them individually, in groups or as a class.
- Supporting pupils’ social and emotional development and reporting concerns to the teacher where appropriate.
- Helping teachers manage classroom behaviour and encouraging positive conduct.
- Helping to plan and prepare lessons, activities and classroom resources.
- Monitoring pupil progress and providing appropriate guidance and support.
- Providing regular feedback to teachers about pupil development and progress.
- Supporting extracurricular activities, including breakfast and after-school clubs.
- Supporting lunchtime duties.
- Carrying out general classroom administration and preparing learning resources.

What you'll learn
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.
Training schedule
Level 3 Apprenticeship in Teaching Assistant consisting of:
- Level 3 Apprenticeship in Teaching Assistant
- Level 2 Functional Skills in English (if applicable)
- Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths (if applicable)
You will attend a half-day training session with HBTC, where you will develop teaching assistant knowledge and skills, and work towards any required Functional Skills qualifications (where needed). Additional off-the-job training and an End Point Assessment will also form part of the Apprenticeship.

Essential qualifications
- GCSE in: English (grade 4)
- Maths (grade 4)
