As a Teaching Assistant, you will support the class teacher to enhance pupils' learning, while your own development is supported through your apprenticeship.
Wage
- £13,520 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

What you'll do at work
Stephenson Way Academy & Nursery School is one of seven schools which forms part of Tudhoe Learning Trust. We are looking for a Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join us for a period of up to 18 months. The role is based in Stephenson Way Academy & Nursery School and offered at 32.5 hours per week and on a term-time basis. Within your apprenticeship, you may be required to work different year groups, supporting teaching & learning in a variety of ways, including group work and one-to-one support, with the aim that all pupils can access our curriculum. The apprenticeship will commence once conditional offer checks are completed.
As an apprentice, you will develop skills, knowledge, and experience of working within Education and you will also develop:
- An understanding of current statutory guidance including ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ Part 1, Safeguarding policies, prevent strategy
- Recognise different stages of child development through school e.g. transition between key stages and year groups
- Support and encourage pupils to move towards independent learning

What you'll learn
Course contents include:
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding, and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up-to-date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.
Training Schedule
Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. They will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day.

You will be working towards the Teaching Assistant Level 3 apprenticeship standard, which includes:
- Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours
- Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard
- Functional skills in maths and English if required
This will be delivered by your dedicated training provider, Realise.
Requirements
Desirable Qualifications
- GCSE in:
- English Language (grade 4)
- Mathematics (grade 4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
