Caistor Yarborough Academy Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship

Caistor Yarborough Academy is looking to recruit two Teaching Assistant Apprentices to join its dedicated team. This is a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people and want to gain valuable, hands-on experience while working towards a nationally recognised Teaching Assistant qualification.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Supporting students on a one-to-one basis, in small groups, and within the classroom.
  • Assisting teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive learning activities.
  • Helping to promote students’ educational, social and emotional development.
  • Building positive relationships with students, including those who may be disengaged from learning.
  • Encouraging students to participate confidently in lessons and school activities.
  • Providing additional support to students with special educational needs under the guidance of the SENCO and class teachers.
  • Assisting with classroom preparation and learning resources.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and helping to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Working closely with teaching staff and other colleagues to ensure students receive the best possible support.
  • Demonstrating the Academy’s values and commitment to providing Excellence for All.

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

Level 3 Apprenticeship in Teaching Assistant consisting of:

  • Level 3 Apprenticeship in Teaching Assistant
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English (if applicable)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths (if applicable)

You will attend a half-day training session with HBTC, where you will develop teaching assistant knowledge and skills, and work towards any required Functional Skills qualifications (where needed). Additional off-the-job training and an End Point Assessment will also form part of the apprenticeship.

Essential qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade 4)
    • maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
