About the Role
We are looking for a teaching assistant apprentice who has a strong passion for supporting children to progress and achieve their full potential, alongside a willingness to learn and develop new skills. You will be energetic, motivated, flexible, and able to use your own initiative while working effectively as part of a team.
What you'll do at work
- Assist with the planning, delivery and evaluation of whole class learning activities, including identifying how the pupils can best be supported.
- Work under the supervision of a teacher to plan, deliver and evaluate learning activities for small groups or individual pupils, providing feedback on pupil engagement and their achievement of the desired learning objectives.
- Help prepare, monitor and maintain a safe and secure learning environment in line with the teacher’s lesson plans.
- Promote the development of pupil's self-reliance, self-esteem and emotional resilience.
- Promote, observe and report on pupil performance and development, using assessment strategies to improve learning.
- Support the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of pupils, facilitating children and young people's learning and development.
- Promote the development of positive relationships and acceptable behaviour in accordance with school policy.
- Develop positive relationships with colleagues, providing consistent and effective support and working constructively as a member of the school staff team.
- Support pupils to improve their numeracy and literacy skills through focussed learning activities and more generally across the curriculum.
- Prepare and utilise ICT resources to support pupils learning.
- Prepare and support the use of learning materials, monitor and maintain curriculum resources, and create visual displays in order to ensure a relevant physical learning environment.
- Provide care and encouragement to children and young people with disabilities or special educational needs, supporting them to participate in activities and liaising, if required, with parents / carers / other professionals as appropriate.
- Provide support for bilingual / multilingual pupils if required.
- Invigilate or provide authorised SEN support for internal and external tests and examinations under formal conditions.
- Assist with the maintenance of pupil record keeping systems, including recording agreed updates to individual records.
- Communicate as appropriate with parents and carers about the care and education of their children, as directed by the school.
- Assist volunteers based in your work area, as appropriate.
- Encourage participation in structured and unstructured learning activities, including play (timetabled and during breaks if required) (Primary and Special Schools).
- Support, as appropriate, in instances where pupils are unwell whilst at the school.
- Provide toileting support to pupils as necessary.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule
- A mixture of blended learning in the workplace and taught delivery every other Friday afternoon at Loughborough College (optional term time only).
- Diarised visits from a dedicated Trainer/Assessor.
- Attendance to Loughborough College for an Induction Day. (Induction to take place on the last Wednesday of the month that you are enrolled, 9:30am-3pm. Confirmation of date provided upon enrolment).
- Attendance to Loughborough College for Functional Skills (if required).
- On-the-job training.
- Off-the-job training.
Essential qualifications
- GCSE in:
- English and Maths (grade 4/C or above)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
