Teaching Assistant Apprentice
Location: Monkspath School, West Midlands (B90 4EH)

Summary
As a teaching assistant apprentice, you will support teaching staff in the classroom and be involved in the development, implementation, and evaluation of pupils' individual progress. You may also support individual children in class, and work with small groups of children within or outside the classroom.
Wage: £19,202 a year
Training Course: Teaching assistant (level 3)
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8.45am-3.30pm. 32 hours 30 minutes a week
Start date: Monday 2 November 2026
Duration: 1 year 6 months

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Under the direction of the class teacher, you will play an important role in supporting pupils' learning and development. Working closely with children of all abilities, including those with additional needs, you will help them access a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum, make good progress, and thrive within a positive, inclusive, and well-organized learning environment. Your work will include:
- Implementing strategies to support pupils such as giving further explanations, adapting work, prompting, or encouraging concentration and participation
- Assisting with the assessment and recording of pupil progress
- Delivering learning activities to groups and individual pupils, including those with EHCPs
- Organising materials and resources for lessons
- Promoting inclusive education and integration and helping in the development of relationships by encouraging appropriate interaction between pupils
- Supporting the class teacher in managing behaviour and promoting good behaviour around the school
- Liaising with the class teacher and school leaders about individual children’s learning
- Undertaking playground duties as part of a rota
- Attending training and meetings
- Complying with the procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, and security, confidentiality, and reporting concerns to an appropriate person
- Undertaking any other duties reasonably required by the class teacher or Head teacher

Training
Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

What you'll learn
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organizational policy
- Adapt resources to support all learners
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals, and stakeholders
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding, and health & safety
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organizational procedures
- Apply methods of formative assessment
- Use up-to-date technology safely, to support learning
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning)
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners
- Provide feedback to learners

Training schedule
The apprentice will have an assigned Educator from Heart of England Training who they will meet with regularly via Teams.
