Summary
The Teaching Assistant Apprentice will support teachers and pupils with learning and development. Duties include helping individuals or groups, preparing resources, supporting classroom activities, encouraging positive behaviour, and promoting a safe, inclusive environment, while completing a recognised Teaching Assistant apprenticeship.
Wage: £15,392 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Hours: 30–37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, during school hours Term Time only.
Shifts: TBC. 37 hours a week

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
The successful apprentice will work alongside qualified teachers and other school staff to support pupils with their learning and development. Main duties will include:
- Supporting teachers with classroom activities and learning tasks.
- Working with individual pupils and small groups to support their learning.
- Helping pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours.
- Preparing and organising classroom resources and learning materials.
- Supporting pupils with reading, writing, numeracy and other curriculum activities.
- Encouraging positive behaviour and helping to maintain a safe, welcoming and inclusive classroom environment.
- Providing support to pupils with additional learning needs where appropriate.
- Assisting with classroom routines, displays and general organisation.
- Supporting the teacher with observations and monitoring pupils' progress.
- Developing positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers.
- Following school policies and safeguarding procedures at all times.
- Covering Lunchtimes.

Training
The apprentice will complete a recognised Teaching Assistant apprenticeship programme alongside their employment. Training will include developing knowledge and practical skills in areas such as:
- Supporting teaching and learning.
- Child and young people's development.
- Safeguarding and child protection.
- Supporting pupils with additional needs.
- Communication and professional relationships.
- Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Supporting positive behaviour.
- Maintaining a safe learning environment.
- Observing and recording pupils' progress.
- Working effectively as part of a school team.
The apprentice will receive support from both the school and their training provider and will have dedicated time to complete their apprenticeship training and qualification.

What you'll learn
Course contents:
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.
