Start your career in education as a Teaching Assistant Apprentice at St Wilfrid's Church of England Academy
Support students in the classroom, gain valuable experience and achieve a nationally recognised qualification while earning and learning.
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Support teachers in delivering lessons and classroom activities
- Work with individual students and small groups to support learning
- Help pupils stay engaged, focused and motivated in lessons
- Provide additional support for students with varying learning needs
- Prepare and organise classroom resources and learning materials
- Assist with classroom management and behaviour expectations
- Support students during break times, educational visits and school activities
- Promote the school's values and contribute to a positive learning environment
- Attend training and complete work towards the Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship qualification

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule
Training will be delivered by Best Practice Network and will take place both in the workplace and through online learning. The apprentice will receive regular support from a dedicated Trainer Assessor, including scheduled reviews, one-to-one coaching and learning activities. Time will be allocated during working hours to complete apprenticeship training and coursework towards the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard.

Best Practice Network is an experienced apprenticeship training provider, offering dedicated support throughout the programme. Training is delivered through a blended approach of workplace learning, online learning and regular progress reviews. Apprentices will be assigned a Trainer Assessor who will provide one-to-one support and guidance throughout their apprenticeship, helping them stay on track and achieve their qualification.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before employment can be confirmed.

Due to the nature of the role, applicants should be professional, reliable, and able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
Applicants must be able to travel to the school site each working day.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the apprentice may have the opportunity to progress into a permanent Teaching Assistant role within the school or wider education sector. This apprenticeship also provides a strong foundation for further qualifications and career pathways, including Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), specialist support roles, pastoral positions, or teacher training for those wishing to pursue a career in teaching.
