SEN Teaching Assistant (1:to:1 and Generic Support)

Location: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

Start Date: Immediate / ASAP

Contract: Full-Time / Part-Time Options: Long-Term / Ongoing

Salary: GBP 95 - GBP 110 per day (dependent on experience)

Randstad Education is currently seeking versatile SEN Teaching Assistants to support vibrant school communities across Cambridge. Whether you specialize in 1:to:1 intervention, feel comfortable providing personal care support, or excel at general classroom assistance across special needs departments, this role offers an incredible platform to make a genuine difference.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support students with a wide spectrum of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), physical disabilities, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tailored 1:to:1 and Group Support: As a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant, you will deliver individualized learning support, keeping pupils focused and engaged with adapted curriculum tasks.
  • Personal Care and Mobility Support: Assist specific pupils with personal care routines (hygiene, changing, feeding) and mobility needs with dignity, respect, and utmost care when required.
  • Behaviour and Sensory Management: Implement visual schedules, sensory breaks, and positive reinforcement strategies to support emotional regulation and maintain a calm environment.
  • General Classroom Assistance: Support class teachers with managing classroom dynamics, setting up specialized learning equipment, and creating interactive resource materials.
  • Track Student Progress: Work alongside the SENCO, class teachers, and external specialists to log daily achievements and adapt support strategies accordingly.

Candidate Profile

We are searching for a resilient, warm, and highly adaptable SEN Teaching Assistant who approaches every challenge with patience and empathy.

  • Prior experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, support worker, care assistant, or youth mentor is highly desirable.
  • Comfort and willingness to assist with personal care and physical support (where required) is advantageous.
  • Patient, calm, and proactive approach with strong communication skills and de-escalation awareness.
  • Understanding of diverse needs such as ASC, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or physical impairments.
  • Holds an Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or readiness to process one immediately through Randstad).
  • Mandatory UK Right to Work (no visa sponsorship available).
