Role: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

Location: Ely and surrounding areas

School Type: Specialist SEN School


About The Role

We are recruiting a compassionate, resilient SEN Teaching Assistant on behalf of a dedicated specialist school supporting pupils with complex needs, including Autistic Spectrum Condition, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. You will work 1:1 and in small groups to remove barriers to learning and foster a safe, predictable environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group support aligned with pupils Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Use alternative communication tools (e.g., PECS, Makaton) and de-escalation techniques to support daily engagement.
  • Assist with sensory processing routines and personal care support where necessary.
  • Collaborate with class teachers, SENCos, and external therapists to track pupil development.
  • Maintain positive behavior management strategies in line with the school's policy.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience supporting children or young adults with SEN (school, care, or support setting). (desirable)
  • A patient, adaptable approach with strong crisis de-escalation skills.
  • Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant care/SEN certifications (desirable).
  • Strong basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness for one).
