This is a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn, working towards a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship while gaining hands-on experience supporting children in the classroom and across school life.
You will be based in Year 5 (Key Stage 2), working alongside an experienced teaching team. Some pupils in the class have complex needs, including social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, so this role is ideal for someone who is patient, calm and keen to learn how to support children with different needs and behaviours.
With support from class teachers, the SENDCo and senior leaders, you will help create a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
You will learn on the job, develop your confidence and build valuable skills for a rewarding career in education.
What you will be doing
You will work closely with the Year 5 teaching team to support whole-class, small-group and individual learning.
Your Role Will Include
- Supporting pupils with their learning, development and wellbeing
- Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils, including those with complex needs
- Using agreed strategies to support pupils with SEMH needs and help them regulate their emotions and access learning
- Supporting positive behaviour and helping to de-escalate situations when pupils become distressed or dysregulated
- Working alongside teachers and the SENDCo to support individual pupils and their specific needs
- Delivering planned activities with individuals and small groups under the guidance of teaching staff
- Supporting teachers with classroom activities, resources and preparation
- Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours
- Contributing to observations, assessment and recording of pupil progress
- Supporting individual plans and providing observations and information to help review pupils’ progress
- Helping create a safe, stimulating and inclusive classroom environment
- Supporting enrichment activities, school clubs, visits and wider school activities
- Following safeguarding, online safety, confidentiality and health and safety procedures at all times
- Promoting equality, diversity, inclusion and respect across the school community
- Taking part in training, coaching and professional development as you work towards your apprenticeship

Apprenticeship details
Apprenticeship: Level 3 Teaching Assistant
Duration: Typically 18–21 months, depending on prior experience and the training provider
Training: Your off-the-job training and study time will be built into your working week
Support: You will have access to a dedicated mentor, regular coaching and professional development
