The Role

Luma Education Recruitment is recruiting a Teaching Assistant for a permanent position at an excellent specialist SEN/SEMH school in Wythenshawe, Manchester.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school where staff are valued and there are genuine opportunities for career progression, training and professional development.

The school works with young people with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and additional learning needs, providing a structured, nurturing and engaging environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Support pupils to access learning and develop confidence and independence
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with young people
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Assist teachers with classroom learning and activities
  • Support pupils with their individual learning and development targets
  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider SEN team
  • Help maintain a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment

About You

  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable
  • Experience within a school, SEN, SEMH, care, youth work or support setting would be advantageous
  • Patient, resilient and positive in your approach
  • Confident supporting young people who may display challenging behaviour
  • Passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Relevant TA/SEN qualifications are desirable but not essential
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
