The Role
The role will involve working collaboratively with teachers as part of a professional team to support teaching and learning. It will include providing specialist assistance to pupils who require additional support to overcome barriers to learning, as well as supporting other staff under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
Responsibilities
- Implement planned learning activities and teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher
- Adapt learning activities in response to pupils’ needs to ensure effective learning outcomes
- Contribute to the planning and evaluation of learning activities, providing feedback on pupil progress and behaviour
- Support the monitoring, assessment, and recording of pupil progress and activities
- Provide feedback to pupils on their attainment and progress under the guidance of the teacher
- Support learning by preparing and providing resources for lessons and activities as directed by the teacher
- Liaise with other staff and share relevant information about pupils when appropriate
- Understand and support pupils with special educational needs
- Assist in supporting volunteers and other learning support staff within the classroom
Experience and Skills Required
- High levels of literacy, numeracy and computer skills (will have GCSE grade C/4 and above (or equivalent) English and maths)
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to maintain confidentiality
- The ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
- A positive attitude, demonstrating flexibility and good-humour

Course Contents
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Training Schedule
- Apprenticeship Level: Level 3 Teaching Assistant SEND Apprenticeship
- Expected Duration: 16-months
- Training: All learning will be delivered online alongside full-time placement at the school
Essential Qualifications
GCSE in:
- Maths and English (grade 4)
