Job Title: Finish Department Team Lead
Function: Production/Operations
FLSA Status: Hourly - Non-exempt
Shift: 1st shift - 5 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Shift: Monday to Thursday 4/10, overtime on Friday/Saturday
Sign-on Bonus: $1,000 TOTAL = $500 @ 3 months AND $500 @ 9 months of service
Job Output:
Reporting to the Finish Department Supervisor, the Finish Department Lead serves as the primary floor-level support for department execution and provides backup leadership when the Supervisor is absent. When the Supervisor is present, this role supports employee-related needs, monitors product quality leaving the department, and helps ensure Standard Work is consistently followed. The Team Lead records and maintains job data for each order moving through the department, including supporting documentation and photographs. This role promotes and reinforces a safe work environment, supports and enforces company policy, and coaches new employees in production, safety, quality, cost, and delivery expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities – Finish Team Lead may include the following:
- Conduct morning huddles and provide work directions when the Supervisor is absent (refer to Process Job Description for Production Supervisor).
- Keep the Gemba and Planner Boards current throughout the day to support accurate scheduling, communication, and workflow visibility.
- Own and sign-off on the accuracy of 1st piece and while running checklists to ensure the 100% quality of products that leave your area.
- Engage Gemini representatives as needed to troubleshoot coating issues and obtain guidance on proper coating use and application.
- Maintain regular inventory of coatings and supplies and place orders with sufficient lead time to prevent material shortages.
- Assist with employee interviews, reviews, 30/60/90-day check-ins with new hires.
- Ensure all employees are at workstation on-time and on-task.
- Assist with employee-related issues and consistently reinforce plant rules and expectations.
- Maintain a strong floor presence, spending most of the time in the production area, and only the necessary amount of time at a computer or desk.
- Train employees on assigned jobs and mentor team members in safe, efficient, and quality-focused work practices.
- Partner with Engineering and Quality to resolve production issues on the floor.
- Coordinate with the Materials group to support scheduling needs and address part-related issues.
- Perform routine and non-routine repetitive production and/or service duties to include operation of machinery (DMC sander, stain machines, vacuum coaters, spray booths, stain lab, Superfici Spray Line, Drying Oven), setup of coatings and equipment, completion of reports and logs, follow-up on work schedules.
- Communicate established safety standards to co-workers, including completion of weekly RA cards and Safety Catch reports.
- Interpret process sheets and provide guidance to employees as needed.
- Perform advanced repairs on finished products, and clean and organize the assigned work area at the end of each shift.
- Provide quality products and services for internal and external customers; quality work and sound decisions are critical to successful downstream operations.
- Communicate regularly with department staff, provide recognition, and mentor team members.
- Coordinate with the Safety department to help ensure safety requirements and OSHA 1910 standards are followed.
- Coordinate with the Quality department to help ensure quality standards are followed.
- Understand differences in solid vs. veneer, interior vs. exterior coatings, proper handling of hazardous waste, etc.
- Partner with Human Resources to support consistent application of employment-related requirements and company policies.

Qualifications

Required
- Availability to work overtime as business needs require.
- Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, adapt to change, develop talent, and build strong working relationships.
- Experience evaluating processes and identifying efficient production layouts and workflow improvements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience supporting or guiding employees, and strong problem-solving skills.
- Dependable and punctual, with a record of good attendance.
- Ability to work effectively with others in the shared pursuit of safe operations and production of material that meets all quality attributes and standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; team-oriented relationship builder.
Desired
- Five years of manufacturing experience.
- Experience with quality assurance systems.

Education and/or Experience
- Minimum GED or high school diploma.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Preferred: CPR/AED/First Aid, OSHA 10-Hour, and MDI Supervisor Certification.
