Role Overview
As a Team Lead Thermofluids engineer you will join our engineering team in Derby to support our activities within the aerospace sector.
You will provide technical leadership across complex thermofluids and thermal engineering activities, supporting the analysis of aero engine components, subsystems, and whole engine applications. Alongside your technical responsibilities, you will lead engineering teams, oversee high-quality technical delivery, and maintain strong relationships with key customer stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across one or multiple engineering teams, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of thermofluids activities
- Lead and support thermo-mechanical analysis of gas turbine and aero engine components, subsystems, and whole engine applications
- Perform and oversee finite element-based heat transfer and thermo-mechanical analysis using 1D, 2D, and 3D methods
- Support thermal model generation, data matching, and thermal model validation studies
- Lead customer technical meetings and maintain strong relationships with key technical stakeholders
- Manage day-to-day technical delivery and internal engineering reviews
- Support team development through hiring, career development, mentoring, and employee engagement
- Identify and implement automation and productivity improvement opportunities to enhance technical delivery
- Support incremental growth activities and contribute to the development of proactive technical proposals

Qualifications
Required Skills
- Strong experience in thermal, thermofluids, or thermo-mechanical analysis within gas turbine or aero engine applications
- Experience in thermo-mechanical analysis using 1D, 2D, and 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Strong knowledge of heat transfer principles, thermal engineering, and gas turbine systems
- Experience in finite element-based heat transfer and thermo-mechanical analysis
- Experience in thermal model generation, data matching, and thermal model validation studies
- Knowledge of aero engine air systems, oil systems, and associated thermal behaviour
- Ability to estimate 1D flow and Heat Transfer Coefficients (HTC) using engineering calculations
- Strong technical leadership, customer management, and engineering delivery skills
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience
- 10+ years of relevant engineering experience within thermal, thermofluids, thermo-mechanical, or related engineering activities
- Demonstrable experience leading technical activities and managing engineering delivery within complex projects
Desirable Skills
- Experience with tools such as SC03, SK22, SPAN, Simscape, and STAR-CCM+
- Experience assessing non-conformances, technical variances, and concessions for aero engine components
- Experience working within Defence or other highly regulated engineering environments
- Experience developing and implementing automation or productivity improvement initiatives
