Team Leader – Therapeutic Children’s Home

Southend | £34,000–£36,500 including sleep-in allowance and enhanced night/bank holiday payments | Full-time

Already working in residential childcare and ready to take the next step? Confident leading shifts, supporting a team and keeping children’s needs at the centre of every decision?

Kites Children’s Services is looking for an experienced Team Leader to help lead a specialist therapeutic children’s home in Southend.

You’ll combine hands-on support with day-to-day leadership, helping create a safe, stable and nurturing home where children can build confidence and achieve positive outcomes.

The Role

Working alongside the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager, you will:

  • Lead shifts and coordinate the day-to-day running of the home
  • Support, supervise and coach Residential Support Workers
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with children
  • Oversee care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and Children’s Homes Regulations are followed
  • Support education, activities and positive routines
  • Work closely with families, social workers, schools and other professionals
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure incidents are reported correctly
  • Support audits, training and continuous improvement within the home
  • Take part in the management on-call rota when required

What We’re Looking For

You’ll need:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent
  • At least 2 years’ experience within residential childcare
  • Good knowledge of the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
  • A calm, resilient and reflective approach
  • Confidence managing challenging situations and supporting colleagues
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, waking nights and sleep-ins
  • Previous experience at senior level within residential childcare is advantageous.
