Band 6 Theatre Team Leader
An exciting Band 6 opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated NMC Registered Nurse or a Registered Operating Department Practitioner to lead an experienced theatre team in our Alan Cummings Day Surgery Unit.
About the Unit
Alan Cummings Day Surgery Unit consists of 6 Theatres and a 30-bedded ward area, situated within the Princess Royal University Hospital premises in Farnborough.
Role Requirements
We are seeking an experienced, qualified professional with excellent leadership and scrub skills with up-to-date knowledge in:
- Gynaecology
- Vascular
- General Surgery
- General/Breast Surgery
- Laparoscopic Surgery
- Dental
- Orthopaedics
- Urology
- Ophthalmology
- Pain
- Cardioversion
- Paediatrics
- ENT – Ears, Nose, and Throat
This role involves occasional wearing of lead aprons and manual handling.
Working Hours
The Team Leader will work 4 days a week from Monday to Friday. There are no night and weekend shifts and no on-call at the present time.
Responsibilities
The post holder will adhere to the NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct, ensuring safe, effective, and accountable practice. They will demonstrate expert clinical knowledge and advanced scrub skills across a range of surgical procedures, maintaining high standards of perioperative care.
They are responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care. This includes interpreting clinical information, recognising deterioration, and taking timely action, including escalation.

The post holder will act as a clinical resource, supporting staff, patients, and relatives. They will maintain accurate documentation in line with legal standards and ensure confidentiality at all times.
They will communicate clearly and compassionately, ensuring patients and relatives are kept informed and supported. They will implement clinical guidelines and evidence-based practice, contributing to audit, quality improvement, and policy development.
They will uphold high standards of care, recognise limitations, and seek senior support when needed. They will contribute to continuous improvement, audits, and service development, support safe patient transfers, promote health education, and align practice with Trust values and perioperative strategies.
