About the Role
Canterbury City Council is a progressive local authority with a diverse portfolio of housing properties and commercial buildings. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join the Facilities Management team as Team Leader (Small Projects), responsible for housing capital programmes, void properties, and key investment projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Small Projects team, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget, and to agreed quality standards.
- Manage the Council's voids programme, improving turnaround times and ensuring properties meet void standards.
- Oversee operational delivery of housing capital investment programmes, including kitchens, bathrooms, windows, and doors.
- Take responsibility for delivering key compliance-related programmes, including fire safety, asbestos, and void property works.
- Work with Contracts Officers and delivery partners, providing technical expertise in specification development, procurement activities, and contract management.
- Shape long-term asset investment strategies, providing professional and technical input into future programmes of work.
- Ensure value for money is achieved through effective procurement, project delivery, and contractor management.
- Collaborate with other Team Leaders to ensure resilience and collaboration across the Facilities Management service.

Working Pattern
- Hours: 37 hours per week
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays
- Contract: Permanent full-time
- Leave: 23 days of annual leave (increasing to 28 after 5 years) plus a full week off over Christmas
Qualifications
- Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIBSE, RICS, CIOB, CABE, CIH)
- Degree in a subject covering Construction or housing (e.g., Building Surveying, Building Service Engineering)
- IOSH Managing Safely qualification or equivalent
- A level 4 housing qualification or willingness to undertake one
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle
Experience
- Strong knowledge of planned maintenance and capital investment programmes.
- Experience in social housing and local authority asset management.
- Understanding of statutory and regulatory landlord responsibilities.
- Knowledge of construction methods, building services, and maintenance operations.
- Experience in procurement, contract management, and performance monitoring.
- Experience in delivering repairs and maintenance services within social housing or a similar environment.
- Experience in managing investment programmes and small projects.
- Experience in leading and motivating high-performing teams.
- Experience in producing reports and presenting information to various stakeholders.
- Experience in driving continuous improvement and delivering value for money.
