Team Leader for Looked After Children

An exciting leadership opportunity has arisen within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTM UHB) for an experienced and motivated nurse to join our Safeguarding and Public Protection Service as a Band 7 Team Leader for Looked After Children.

This is a rewarding role for a passionate practitioner who is committed to improving outcomes for looked after children, care-experienced young people, and their families.

• You will lead and support a dedicated multidisciplinary team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, child-centred health assessments, care planning, and safeguarding services across the Health Board.

As the Team Leader for Looked After Children, you will provide clinical and professional leadership to the Looked After Children Health Team, ensuring that vulnerable children and young people receive timely, effective, and compassionate healthcare.

• Working closely with local authority, education, foster carers, residential settings, and other health professionals, you will play a pivotal role in promoting the health, wellbeing, and safety of children in care.

The successful candidate will lead service development, drive quality improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with Welsh Government and statutory requirements.

• Whilst primarily based within the Looked After Children Team, the post holder will contribute to the wider Safeguarding and Public Protection Team, providing support across the broader safeguarding agenda as required.

• Act as first point of contact for telephone queries relating to Looked After Children service, dealing frequently with safeguarding issues, child and adult abuse requiring empathy, reassurance and persuasive skills to allay any fears or anxieties the caller may have.

• Work collaboratively with partner agencies across health, social care and wider statutory and third-sector services to ensure Looked After Children receive equitable, high-quality healthcare, with services responsive to their individual needs, vulnerabilities and looked after status.

• Support wider multi-agency safeguarding arrangements, promoting effective information sharing, professional challenge, escalation and collaborative decision-making to safeguard children, young people and adults at risk.

• Contribute to the development, implementation and review of safeguarding systems, processes, policies and pathways across the Looked After Children health service and, where required, the wider safeguarding service. This will support consistency, quality assurance and compliance with relevant statutory duties, national guidance and organisational governance arrangements.
