Job Introduction
We have an exciting opportunity for an Operational Team Leader to join our Major Projects team, leading a skilled team of approximately 20 Craft colleagues delivering a safe, reliable electricity network across the East Wales region.
Based from Cardiff or Swansea, you’ll play a key role in driving the safe, efficient and productive delivery of our major projects programme. You’ll coordinate programmes of work, maximise team performance and efficiency, and ensure your people have the right training, development and authorisations to succeed. As a visible and supportive leader, you’ll also manage individual performance through regular 1:1s, while ensuring all work is delivered safely and compliantly in line with our Health & Safety policies.
As this is a crucial role to help drive forward performance and give our large teams the support they need in the field, you’ll need to be depot‑based and comfortable with regular travel throughout the area.
The starting salary will be £45,492 until the training is successfully completed.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensuring your teams adherence to Health and Safety regulations
- Efficient scheduling of work activities
- Collaboration with other teams to manage workload
- Driving team productivity and individual performance management
- Maintaining a full schedule of work for the team
- Ensure our people have the appropriate training and work authorisations to support a safe and productive working environment
- Respond quickly and professionally to customer complaints

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this role will be an excellent communicator with a proven track record of managing teams, and will be experienced in being an escalation point for both the team and external customers.
- Experience within a safety-critical and/or regulated industry and be able to demonstrate sound judgement.
- The ability to develop a good understanding of Health and Safety legislation, Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002 and Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
- Organised, good time management, the ability to juggle multiple jobs with different complexities and guarantee standards often at the same time, with strong problem solving and the ability to think and plan ahead
- Good communicator with the presence to build strong relationships with our customers
- An understanding of and the ability to effectively manage performance
- Knowledge of craft roles or the ability/willingness to quickly develop your understanding of these roles and the work activities in your team
- Experience of working in high-risk, operational industries where health and safety is paramount, ideally.
- A NRSWA qualification or understanding of NRSWA legislation is desirable but full training can be provided.
