Job Overview
The post holder will provide effective, efficient and professional support to the Facilities Management (FM) Team and the clinical Teams under their direct responsibility. This will include the day to day management of Patient Support Team (PST) staff in order to provide a high quality and professional cleaning and patient and product movement services in line with Trust operational requirements.
The post holder will be based primarily in Wards and Departments and be responsible for the effective resourcing of the Patient Support Teams both at horizontal, vertical levels and retained estate with direct support from the Duty FM Managers.
The role requires that the post holder will need to work effectively in close collaboration with Clinical Staff, the FM Helpdesk and Duty Facilities Managers in order to deliver and sustain exceptional patient support related standards.
A Full, Clean, UK Manual Driving license is essential for this post.
Main duties of the job
- To manage staff daily workload ensuring safety as a priority.
- Be responsible for maintaining productive working relationships with all levels of Trust staff and external providers.
- To be able to communicate effectively using both written and verbal skills.
- The ability to analyse and use information relevant to the role.
- Good inter-personal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- The ability to organise oneself and one’s work so that duties are completed within deadlines and conform to organisational and legal requirements.
- Work closely with and support where necessary peers in other FM departments.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Working Conditions / Effort
Working conditions:
- To be able to be flexible over hours of work
- Working in close proximity to ill patients and distressed relatives
- To be able to work at ward or department level through effective use of mobile technologies
Mental Effort:
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Busy environment with frequent interruptions
- Ability to make logical and quick decisions to ensure service delivery and standards are maintained
- Ability to understand the escalation processes and utilise them as and when appropriate
- Ability to train others in the safe use of equipment and technologies
- On occasion the need to deal with irate ‘customers’ in relation to provision of service, this can be over the telephone or in person
Physical:
- Working mobile at ward / department level with minimal time spent in an office type environment
- The role involves walking and standing for large periods of the day
- The role requires daily use of DSE equipment
- The occasional need to undertake some physical demanding tasks i.e. move cages of approx. 300kg in weight and all other FM associated equipment.

Essential criteria
- Educated to HND level or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- ILM Levels 2 &3
- BICS Assessor
- IOSH Health and Safety Certification
- Customer Service & Infection Control
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Essential criteria
- Working knowledge and understanding of BICs cleaning standards and ability to manage others against them
- Ability to lead, motivate, manage and support sub-ordinate staff groups
- Ability to demonstrate adaptable training skills to teach others in systems and processes as per Departmental and Trust arrangements and policies
- Ability to work independently and autonomously, whilst understanding escalation boundaries and processes
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise jobs appropriately whilst demonstrating good communication skills
- Ability to make decisions and find solutions to ensure service and business continuity
- Ability to work and act according to standard operating procedures and safe systems of work
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of managing a team with different skill-sets and abilities
- Experience of working with modern technology and E-Systems
- Experience in busy customer service based support role
