ABOUT WORLDMODELDATA

Worldmodeldata is building the trusted data backbone for the next generation of AI — world models and embodied AI. We extract millions of multi-modal, action-conditioned trajectories from video games and deliver them as training-ready datasets to frontier AI labs. Strategically advised by Prof. Yann LeCun. We are lean, well-funded, and operating at high speed.

THE ROLE

This is the most senior technical hire we will make. You will be the technical lead of Worldmodeldata — owning the architecture end-to-end, from game engine data extraction through to the cloud pipeline that delivers clean, structured datasets to Lab clients. You will review our Systems Engineer's Rust and C++ code, drive R&D when clients need non-standard data layers, and be the person Labs talk to when they want something that has never been built before.

This role demands a genuinely rare combination: deep game engine and low-level systems knowledge, full-stack product engineering, and the communication instinct to lead a technical conversation with an AI research team. If you have strong opinions about how data flows from a game's scene graph to a GPU — and can also ship a backend API and talk to a client — read on.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

  • End-to-end technical architecture across all product streams — installer, cloud backend, data pipeline, and client delivery
  • Design decisions and product direction — translating business requirements into technical and UX guidance for the Product Designer, ensuring what gets built matches what clients and contributors actually need
  • Game data extraction R&D — designing and implementing custom data capture layers for non-standard client requests
  • Code review of the Systems Engineer's Rust/C++ collector — correctness, memory safety, and performance
  • Cloud backend and ingestion API — auth, token system, contributor management, and client distribution (batch and streaming)
  • Client-facing technical engagement — scoping calls, feasibility assessment, and delivery against Lab research requirements
  • Architecture decisions across all streams; defining contracts between the installer, pipeline, and web platform
  • Mentorship and technical direction for a small engineering team

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Game Engine & Systems

  • Deep knowledge of game engine internals — rendering pipeline, scene graph, object transforms, G-buffer composition, velocity buffers, depth buffers, and post-processing stages
  • Expert-level C++, C#, and Rust proficiency; ability to write and critically review production systems code across all three
  • Experience with graphics APIs — Direct3D (DX11/DX12), Vulkan, or OpenGL — and how game state flows through to GPU execution
  • Familiarity with binary analysis, memory inspection, hooking, or instrumentation at the process or graphics API level
  • Understanding of how games manage and stream assets, textures, and scene data — and the GPU memory and bandwidth implications

Full-Stack & Cloud

  • 5+ years of production backend engineering (Python, Node.js, or Go); comfortable owning an API layer end-to-end
  • Experience designing and shipping on AWS or GCP — compute, storage, IAM, and networking
  • Confident with authentication systems, token management, and security fundamentals
  • Enough frontend literacy to review and contribute to a React/TypeScript web platform (you are not the primary frontend author)

Technical Leadership & Client-Facing

  • Track record of leading technical architecture across a multi-stream product — making decisions, writing specs, and getting alignment without a large committee
  • Comfortable in a client-facing R&D context: able to translate a researcher's data requirement into a concrete technical specification, and to push back when the ask is infeasible
  • Experience reviewing systems-level code and giving feedback that improves both correctness and the engineer

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

  • You think about data extraction and data quality as a systems problem, not just a pipeline problem
  • You thrive in fast-moving environments with short development cycles — you can scope, build, and ship without waiting for a complete specification
  • You can hold a client conversation with a research team at a major AI lab without needing translation
  • You have a strong engineering instinct — you care deeply about how things are built, not just that they work

NICE TO HAVE

  • Exposure to ML training data pipelines, embedding storage, or large-scale data packaging for research use
  • Prior experience in game development, game tooling, or the game modding community
  • Familiarity with HLSL or GLSL shader programming
  • Understanding of multi-modal data capture (video, depth, telemetry) and frame-level annotation
