Tech Lead / Staff Engineer
£90,000 to £95,000
Central Glasgow, hybrid: 1 to 2 days a week in the office
About the Role
Want Tech Lead influence without losing the hands-on side? This is not one of those senior roles where you spend all week in meetings and barely touch code.
You’d be joining a financially strong SaaS product business delivering software into the UK public and private sector. The products are live, the engineering challenges are real, and this role sits in a strong middle ground between leadership, architecture, and hands-on development.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Software Development Manager, you’ll help set technical direction, support the team, stay close to the code, and play a key part in architectural decisions.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll lead from the front. That means solving complex technical problems, shaping standards and approach, supporting other developers, and staying hands-on where it counts most.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
Graduate Consultant — 2026 Scheme
Why you're a good match
StrongYour economics background and your summer at a regional bank line up with what PwC looks for on the consulting scheme. Applications close in four weeks.
See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The environment is modern TypeScript and AWS, with strong backend engineering at the core. AWS CDK and infrastructure as code are essential, alongside microservices and modern web and mobile product development.
This is a role for someone who wants real influence over how things are built, not just responsibility for delivering tickets.
Why This Role Stands Out
The Glasgow office is their development hub, with the team coming together 1 to 2 days a week.
Enough for collaboration without pointless presenteeism.
There’s also a major plus here. They currently have 4 developers seconded in from AWS.
So you’ll be working in an environment with direct exposure to strong cloud engineering, modern thinking, and high-level coaching. For someone at Tech Lead level, that is a big selling point.
You’ll also be joining at the level where your decisions, code, and leadership will all have visible impact.

Requirements
You’ll need strong TypeScript and backend development experience, plus solid AWS capability.
AWS CDK and infrastructure as code are key. Experience in microservices and architectural input will matter too.
This could suit someone already working as a Tech Lead, Lead Developer, Principal Engineer, or a very senior developer who has become the technical anchor in their team.
You do not need to be a pure people manager. But you do need technical credibility, sound judgement, and the ability to raise standards around you.
This Probably Won’t Suit You If...
- You want a fully remote role.
- You want pure architecture without delivery responsibility.
- You've been off the code for a while.
- Or you like the title of leadership more than the reality of it.
