Location: Glasgow, Darlington or Llandudno

Pension: A Civil Service Pension with an employer contribution of 28.97%

About the Role

Please note that this is a fixed term contract for a period of maternity cover until 31 December 2027.

As Technical and Capital Accountant, you'll play a key role in ensuring Student Loans Company's financial reporting is accurate, compliant and supported by strong financial controls. Working within the Financial Accounting team, you'll provide technical accounting expertise across areas including capital accounting, prepayments and balance sheet management, helping to maintain the integrity of financial information and support effective stewardship of public money.

You'll use your professional judgement to assess accounting treatments, advise colleagues on capitalisation and reporting requirements, and ensure financial transactions are supported by robust evidence and controls. The role is central to the preparation of statutory accounts, year-end reporting and audit activity, contributing to successful reporting outcomes and compliance with accounting and governance requirements.

We're looking for a CCAB-qualified accountant (or equivalent), a part-qualified accountant with significant relevant experience, or someone who can demonstrate equivalent accounting expertise gained through experience. This is an opportunity to apply and further develop your technical accounting skills in a complex public sector environment, while making a direct contribution to the quality, reliability and transparency of SLC's financial reporting.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
