Position: Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting Specialist
Type: Hourly Contract
Compensation: $80–$120/hour

About the Opportunity
Mercor is collaborating with a leading AI lab to engage experienced Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting Specialists to help develop high-quality training data for AI systems. In this role, you'll translate real-world technical accounting and external reporting expertise into structured scenarios and expert feedback that helps AI systems reason through complex ASC judgments and reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
- Design realistic technical accounting scenarios based on professional experience.
- Develop scenarios involving technical accounting memos and schedules.
- Create tasks based on SEC filings, including 10-K and 10-Q reports.
- Develop and evaluate footnotes and financial statement disclosures.
- Apply new and complex ASC standards to real-world transactions.
- Review and compare AI-generated technical accounting outputs.
- Evaluate AI conclusions for standards accuracy and defensible supporting analysis.
- Provide clear, precise written feedback to improve AI reasoning around technical accounting.
- Collaborate asynchronously with the research team.
- Apply professional judgment when assessing complex accounting conclusions and supporting documentation.

Required Qualifications
- Professional background in Big 4 or public-company technical accounting and/or SEC reporting.
- Deep, hands-on experience with relevant ASC standards, particularly:
- ASC 606 — Revenue Recognition
- ASC 842 — Leases
- ASC 718 — Stock-Based Compensation
- ASC 805 — Business Combinations
- Demonstrated technical accounting expertise beyond general audit experience.
- CPA certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and analytical ability.
- Ability to evaluate technical accounting conclusions and supporting documentation critically.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience preparing technical accounting memos and schedules.
- Strong SEC reporting experience, including 10-K and 10-Q filings.
- Experience with complex financial statement disclosures and footnotes.
- Experience applying newly issued or complex accounting standards to transactions.
- Experience reviewing or evaluating technical accounting work products.
- Strong ability to communicate complex accounting conclusions clearly and concisely.

Compensation
- $80–$120 per hour
- Remote hourly contract.

Eligibility
- Applicants must be based in the United States.
- Must have relevant technical accounting and/or SEC reporting experience.
- CPA certification and a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field are required.
