We are looking for a passionate Technical Accounting Manager to join our Technical Accounting and External Reporting team.
As a Technical Accounting Manager in our team, you will leverage your strong IFRS knowledge and experience of complex accounting transactions to provide valuable accounting guidance to stakeholders across the Group. You will play a key role in producing National Grid plc’s half-year results statement and full-year Annual Report and Accounts (ARA) and 20F. Your responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing disclosures, supporting SOX documentation and control evidence, as well as assisting with month-end reporting and the preparation of statutory accounts for head office companies.
This role is based out of our Strand office, and we’d hope to see you at least 2/3 days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!
What You Do
- Draft technical accounting papers and work through the resolution of papers with our Auditors.
- Provide technical accounting advice for large and complex internal and external transactions.
- Consider new IFRS guidance as it is issued and help on projects to implement new accounting standards (IFRS 18 and IFRS 20), as well as develop existing accounting policies and communicate these changes to accounting teams across the Group.
- Develop relationships with key stakeholders across the business units and assist in organising our annual Financial Reporting Summit where we invite all stakeholders to continue their professional development.
- Produce disclosures and operate key SOX controls for the half year results statement and year-end annual report and accounts.
- Participate as part of a small team who run the month-end Group consolidation, working with subsidiary teams and the Group Financial Planning and Analysis team.
- Post monthly consolidation and elimination journals and review the output of month-end reports and validation checks.
- Provide support on the preparation of the head office subsidiary accounts, including being up-to-date on required disclosures.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
