Technical Accounting Manager UK&I
Swegon are looking for a Technical Accounting Manager UK&I to be based at our site in Ashby De La Zouch. This role focus on being the core guardian of financial compliance, statutory reporting, and balance sheet integrity across the UK and Ireland business. Operating as the Record-to-Report (R2R) Process Owner, this role transitions the business away from fragmented, local entity bookkeeping and establishes a centralised, best-in-class financial control environment. The successful candidate will leverage their deep technical expertise (specifically FRS 102) and practice background to own the end-to-end audit process, statutory accounts preparation, group reporting, and month-end governance. This role demands a technically brilliant accountant who can seamlessly bridge strict regulatory compliance with operational month-end efficiency.
Main duties and responsibilities
(This is not an exhaustive list and is subject to change depending on the business needs)
- Take full ownership of preparing annual Statutory Accounts and Financial Statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, disclosures) for all UK&I entities in strict compliance with FRS 102.
- Manage the full end-to-end external and group audit processes, acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors, coordinating PBC (Provided by Client) lists, resolving queries, and ensuring timely sign-off.
- Maintain and govern internal control documentation, ensuring robust segregation of duties and audit trails across all R2R workflows.
- Oversee current and deferred tax calculations, tax reconciliations, and regulatory compliance reporting to meet local requirements.
- Drive the close planning and governance process, defining the close calendar, cut-off rules, checklists, and strict control sign-offs across the shared services team.
- Command full ownership of the Balance Sheet, ensuring rigorous monthly reconciliations (Bank, AP/AR to GL, GR/IR, Fixed Assets) backed by control evidence and materiality checks.
- Execute and review complex GL postings, accruals, deferrals, reclassifications, and manual journal entries, enforcing strict approval workflows.
- Manage fixed asset registers, capitalisations, depreciation runs, and lease accounting postings.
- Oversee inventory valuation accounting, WIP calculations, obsolescence provisions, and standard cost updates in partnership with commercial finance.
- Submit and validate accurate Trial Balances and group reporting packages to Group Finance within strict corporate deadlines.
- Perform variance analysis and provide analytical reviews and management commentary on balance sheet movements.
- Manage intercompany accounting, including invoicing, recharges, reconciliations, and dispute resolution for intercompany mismatches.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
