About the Role
We're looking for an organised and proactive Technical Adviser to join our Technical Services team and play a key role in the day-to-day operation of our Loan Hub. This is an exciting opportunity to support teaching, learning, research and creative practice by ensuring specialist equipment is available, maintained and ready for use.
As Technical Adviser, you'll be responsible for managing the Loan Hub, providing an efficient equipment loan service and supporting students, staff and external partners with expert technical advice. From preparing cameras, lighting and audio equipment to maintaining accurate booking records and ensuring equipment is safe and ready for use, you'll help deliver a professional, reliable and customer-focused service.
Working independently within established procedures, you'll use your technical expertise and initiative to resolve routine issues while working closely with the wider Technical Services team to support practical teaching, workshops, research and knowledge exchange activities.
About You
This role would suit a technically minded individual who enjoys solving problems, delivering exceptional customer service, and working effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
You will bring experience of working with professional media equipment and providing technical support in a customer-facing setting. You'll be comfortable carrying out routine equipment maintenance, identifying and resolving basic faults, and helping users get the most from the resources available to them. Strong organisational skills will enable you to effectively prioritise competing demands, while your communication and interpersonal skills will help you build positive relationships with colleagues, students and other stakeholders.

You'll also have good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office and equipment management systems, together with a sound understanding of health and safety requirements within technical environments.
It would be an advantage if you have experience working within a Higher or Further Education setting, as well as familiarity with equipment booking or asset management systems. A PAT Testing qualification, knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, and experience supervising student assistants or temporary staff would also be beneficial. However these experience and skills are desirable, not essential for the role.
Most importantly, you'll be proactive, customer-focused, and enthusiastic about supporting a high-quality technical service.
