About the Role

A Technical Architect is responsible for shaping, documenting, and assuring technical architectures that support the delivery of digital products, platforms, and services. They analyse business and technical requirements, contribute to solution designs, and help ensure services are secure, scalable, supportable, and aligned with The Home Office objectives.

As a Technical Architect, you will undertake structured analysis of business and technical challenges, translating requirements into clear solution designs and architecture artefacts. You will identify risks, constraints, and opportunities for reuse, communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to support the delivery of secure and resilient services.

What You Will Do

  • Analyse existing services, platforms, and technical solutions to identify improvement opportunities, manage technical risks, and support the delivery of secure and sustainable outcomes.
  • Contribute to solution architecture by producing architecture artefacts, evaluating technical options, and documenting design decisions, risks, and dependencies.
  • Support integration of new systems, platforms, and cloud services into existing environments, producing architecture diagrams, technical assessments, and design documentation to support delivery.
  • Take ownership of architecture activities for designated products, services, or technical workstreams, supporting their design, delivery, and continual improvement.
  • Collaborate across teams and suppliers to identify reusable components, reduce technical debt, and drive consistent architectural practices.
  • Review delivered solutions to assess whether architectural objectives have been achieved and identify opportunities for improvement and reuse.
  • Adhere to governance requirements and assurance frameworks, ensuring solutions meet relevant policies, standards, and compliance requirements.

What You Will Bring (Essential Skills)

  • Contributing to the design and assurance of secure, resilient, and supportable digital services.
  • Producing architecture artefacts and technical designs that support the delivery of secure, resilient, and supportable services.
  • Producing and maintaining architecture artefacts, including architecture diagrams, technical assessments, and design documentation.
  • Driving innovation and continuous improvement in solution design.
  • Working effectively across multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to develop practical technology solutions.
  • Working within agile delivery environments and understanding how architecture supports delivery, operations, and continual improvement.
  • Contributing to technical roadmaps, architecture standards, and reusable design patterns.
  • Understanding security, resilience, data, accessibility, and operational requirements when designing technical solutions.
