Note. This role is best for individuals who already have paid work and want to contribute to other projects, interested in building shareholding and assets rather than needing additional salary at this stage. Our current advisors include a Senior Director of Engineering at Adobe, an ex-Epic Games Design Director, and a C-suite business executive with 35 years of experience. We're looking for the same calibre again.
About us
Schologists Magna is a UK healthtech startup building Veyra, a clinical cognitive remediation game for adolescents with ADHD, built in Unreal Engine 5 and developed in partnership with Imperial College London and the NHS Innovation Service. We're Innovate UK backed, patent filed, and founded by a clinical researcher. We're building a game that has to work as a game and as a clinical intervention, with a small, fast-moving team.
The role
We're looking for a highly experienced technical artist to act as advisor and mentor to our Creative Director. This is not a production role. The primary purpose is one-to-one development: regular time with her to build her skillset and confidence in technical art, shaped around what she most wants to learn. You'd be the senior technical art voice in the room: a weekly touchpoint (45-60 min call plus light async review) helping her, and the team around her, make the right technical and visual calls at the right time.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you'd guide us on
- Environment art in UE5, from blockout to final polish: composition, modular workflows and asset pipelines
- Lighting that sells a scene: Lumen, light rigs and mood across our environments
- Rendering and performance: Nanite, materials and optimisation, because Veyra has to look beautiful and run on school hardware
- What to build, buy or kitbash, and how to make marketplace assets look like ours
- UI art in engine: how UI moves from design into UMG
- What can stay placeholder vs what must be defined early
- Mentoring our Creative Director and artists directly, raising the bar on how we plan, build and ship environments and UI
