Role Description

The QA Technician will support the Technical Manager with day-to-day quality assurance activities on the factory floor, ensuring food safety, hygiene, GMP standards and legality are consistently followed.

This role is hands-on and production-based, with a strong focus on monitoring, enforcement, sampling, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Factory & Production Support

  • Carry out daily GMP and hygiene checks across production, packing, and storage areas.
  • Monitor compliance with food safety procedures and challenge non-conformances in real time.
  • Ensure staff follow hygiene, PPE, and allergen controls correctly.
  • Support line start-ups and checks throughout production.
  • Deputise for the Technical Manager in their absence.
  • Be involved in maintaining and improving systems within the Technical Department.

Sampling & Testing

  • Take product, environmental, and swab samples as per schedule.
  • Prepare and submit samples to external laboratories.
  • Record, track, and follow up results.
  • Escalate any out-of-spec results to the Technical Manager.

Quality & Food Safety Checks

  • Complete daily QA checks: temperature monitoring, CCP verification, metal detector checks and cleaning verification.
  • Support traceability exercises and mass balance tests.
  • Assist with glass, plastic, and foreign body controls.

Audits & Compliance

  • Support BRCGS, RED TRACTOR, LOCAL AUTHORITY, customer, and internal audits.
  • Carry out internal GMP audits.
  • Assist in closing out non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Ensure documentation is completed accurately and on time.
  • Responding to customer queries, specification requests, complaints handling/ trending.

Training & Inductions

  • Support new starter inductions (food safety & hygiene).
  • Assist with refresher training on GMP, CCP, allergens, and hygiene.
  • Reinforce food safety culture on the factory floor.

General Technical Support

  • Assist with document control and record keeping.
  • Support investigations and corrective actions.
  • Act as a point of contact between production and technical.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of food safety, hygiene, HACCP and GMP
  • Confident working in a production environment
  • Good attention to detail
  • Comfortable challenging non-compliance

Desirable

  • Level 2 Food Safety (or working towards)
  • HACCP LEVEL 2 working towards level 3
  • Experience with BRCGS or similar standards
  • Previous QA / Technical Assistant role
  • Experience taking samples and completing audits

Personal Attributes

  • Organised and reliable
  • Comfortable working on the factory floor
  • Able to work independently
  • UK Driving licence/your own transport (or within easy commute) to Leyton for a 6am start
