Technical Assistant

Location: Basildon, Essex

Salary: £35,000 per annum

Shift: Monday to Friday

Working Hours: 40 hours per week

Core Hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm

2x 30-minute unpaid breaks

About the Role

Join Reynolds Food Group as a Technical Assistant and play a key role in supporting the business to maintain the highest standards of food safety, quality, and legality across our fresh food manufacturing operations.

Based in Basildon, you will work closely with the General Manager, Technical Manager, customers, suppliers, and third parties, helping to ensure that all technical and quality requirements are effectively managed and maintained.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting the site approach to the management of food safety, quality, and legality, including BRCGS requirements.
  • Supporting periodic compliance reporting to the Technical Director and ensuring relevant technical standards are maintained.
  • Acting as a technical point of contact for key customers, handling food safety, legality, and quality matters professionally and effectively.
  • Communicating food technical issues and scenarios clearly and efficiently across the business.
  • Supporting the development, maintenance, and continual improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Preparing and supporting monthly reporting on food safety, legality, and quality KPIs.
  • Working closely with wider Technical and Quality teams, including supporting specification management.
  • Investigating and managing customer complaints, identifying root causes, and supporting appropriate corrective actions.
  • Supporting customer and third-party audits and ensuring actions are followed through effectively.
  • Maintaining an effective watching brief for relevant technical, food safety, and quality alerts.
  • Working closely with manufacturing, operational, and support teams to maintain and improve technical and quality standards.

What We’re Looking For

  • A degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in a science-based subject.
  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience working within a Technical or Quality team, preferably within the food industry.
  • Knowledge and experience of BRCGS certification schemes.
  • Strong understanding of HACCP principles.
  • Experience with internal auditing.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A personable and professional approach when dealing with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with manufacturing, operational, and technical teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety, quality, and legality.
