Job Description

We are now recruiting for a Technical Assurance Requirements Engineer to join the HS2 Track Infrastructure Project during its initial design phase, while concurrent operations are at their peak.

The team operates under the Rail Systems Alliance (RSA), designed to manage interfaces, resolve program conflicts, and drive collaborative project success through shared goals in design, access, resources, and logistics for cost and schedule alignment.


Position Title: Technical Assurance Requirements Engineer

Key Responsibilities

The Technical Assurance Requirements Engineer shall:

  • Actively coordinate and submit all technical assurance activities, helping to resolve related issues and ensure progressively self-assured product delivery.
  • Contribute to improving technical assurance processes, capturing lessons learned from past projects or challenges.
  • Apply processes and procedures, particularly those outlined in the FBRS Requirements and Assurance Management Plan (RAMP), to achieve technical self-assurance at each HS2 Technical Lifecycle Stage.
  • Work closely with teams to maintain and verify the Contractor’s Technical Requirements Baseline, ensuring compliance with Works Information, industry standards, and statutory obligations.
  • Assist in identifying, decomposing, and tracking new/requested/legacy requirements.
    • Aid in elicitation of system and subsystem requirements during the design phase.
  • Ensure rigorous engineering analysis and validation, verification (V&V) activities produce evidence that satisfies stakeholder needs and accelerates approval, keeping projects on schedule.
  • Enable referred to as ‘Progressive Assurance’—continuously progressing evidence ensuring approvals are risk-assessed to avoid unacceptable delay in project completion.
  • Support technical readiness progress reviews, and tracking/statement of delivered assurance, managing program certification status.
  • Assist the assessment of technical assurance readiness for interdisciplinary design reviews and transition across HS2 project lifecycle stage gates.
  • Contribute to presenting assurance packs required for the level 3 lifecycle stage gate FBRS/HS2 acceptance panels.
  • Often involved in regular progress reviews, monitoring status updates, and formulation of certification to meet project timelines.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: Degree in Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Preferred: Chartered IMechE (het IMECH, PWA Institute) or CEng (ICE)

  • Experience:

    • With major multi-disciplinary railway infrastructure projects (preferably high-speed conductors).
    • In design and build projects with UK construction compliance experience.
    • Specifically in technical assurance roles, delivering aligned activities and outputs.
  • Proficiencies:

    • Familiarity with Requirements Management and Project/V&V methodologies.
    • Proficient in IBM® Rational DOORS (industry standard for requirements traceability).
    • Hands-on experience aligning requirements using risk-based attestation frameworks.
  • Soft Skills:

    • Excellent written, verbal, and stakeholder communication skills.
    • Team player who values open collaboration, curiosity-driven continuity, and problem-solving.
    • Taking a positive, engaged, and proactive approach in a complex environment.
