The Role

As a Technical Author, you will be responsible for the preparation of a range of technical documentation in support of QTS’s (QinetiQ Target Systems) product range and assisting our Field Services Team to provide conformity and procedural documentation.

Day-to-day, you’ll provide documentation delivery, within priorities set by the Technical Publications Manager. This will include preparation of illustrated parts catalogues, maintenance manuals, operating manuals and training materials, covering both electrical and mechanical systems.

This role lies within our QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) Engineering Team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing presentation material and supporting the Training Material Developer
  • Generating original graphics, including photographs and CAD images, for use in technical publications
  • General documentation support to departments and projects
  • Working closely with the Field Services Team to assist with the creation of conformity and procedural documents, across a wide customer base
  • Maintaining a good working knowledge of QTS products

Essential experience of the Technical Author:

  • You will have experience in technical publications, ideally gained within an engineering environment
  • Understanding of CAD systems and the manipulation of CAD Models for presentation into documentation
  • Your work methods should be well-structured and documented, and you need to have the ability to develop documentations with customer user focus and lateral thinking
  • Delivering documentation within tight timescales
  • Creative, pragmatic and self-driven with the ability to work unsupervised

Essential qualifications for the Technical Author:

  • Possessing an Aeronautical, Mechanical or Electronic Engineering qualification

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Ashford site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.

QinetiQ operates state-of-the-art facilities across the UK that focus on defence, security and technology innovation. These facilities enable QinetiQ to conduct a wide range of research, testing and development activities that support both military and civilian applications helping to advance technology and support national security.
