Technical Business Analyst | 6 Months | £400/day inside IR35 | Leeds, 1 Day a Week
There are Business Analysts who write requirements, and there are Technical Business Analysts who understand what engineers actually need in order to build something.
This is the second kind, and the seat is live today.
THE ROLE
A Tier 1 systems integrator is delivering one of the largest digital transformation programmes running in UK central government. The work is primarily technical. You are not mapping end-user journeys. You are translating complex system and integration problems into structured, build-ready requirements that engineering teams can act on.
One position, replacing a contractor who has moved on. It is available now rather than subject to a hiring round.
One day a week in Leeds. The other four are remote.
YOU WILL
- Lead workshops, interviews and focus groups to surface technical problems, integration needs and system dependencies
- Translate those problems into structured requirements — epics, features, stories and acceptance criteria in INVEST format using GIVEN/WHEN/THEN syntax
- Produce data mapping, data flow mapping and process models including SIPOC to establish stakeholder consensus
- Manage relationships across business and technical stakeholders, escalating and resolving risks and issues before they reach delivery
- Work alongside Business Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, Data Architecture and Software Engineering to hold alignment across disciplines
- Define test scenarios and conditions across the sprint cycle, working with testers and developers on defects and resolutions
- Support production of business cases including market analysis and cost benefit assessment
Reasons to use Rodeo
I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- UK central government delivery, on engagements of six months or longer. This one is not negotiable on this programme and the client sifts on it, so if you have not worked inside a department, an arm's length body or a devolved administration, this is not the role for you
- Technical BA background in a software delivery team, working to the systems and integration end of the discipline rather than the process end
- Writing stories, features and acceptance criteria to INVEST principles using GIVEN/WHEN/THEN, applied on live delivery rather than learned on a course
- Data mapping, data flow mapping and process modelling, including SIPOC and story mapping
- Jira and Confluence as core working tools rather than something you have seen
- Stakeholder management across technical and non-technical audiences, including where the two disagree
- Able to join a live programme and contribute without a settling-in period

ADVANTAGEOUS
- Active SC clearance, or SC clearable
- Delivery alongside enterprise or data architecture teams
- Experience of citizen-facing services operating at national scale
WHY THIS ONE
It is genuinely technical. If you have spent the last few years being asked to do process mapping when your background is systems and integration, this is the other kind of BA role, and there are not many of them advertised.
The working pattern is the part most people miss. One day a week in Leeds and four at home, on a central government programme of this size, is unusually workable. If you are anywhere between Manchester and York it is a manageable week.
And it is open now. The previous contractor moved on, the programme is mid-flight, and nobody is waiting on a hiring round to start. If you are available in the next few weeks that counts for something here.
