Technical Business Analyst
FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Technical Business Analyst to work for our client within the Retail sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in London or Coventry.
Our client is seeking experienced Business Analysts to join their next-generation ecommerce programme. You will be embedded in cross-functional journey teams, turning customer outcomes into a verified, end-to-end understanding of the business. You will document how journeys work today, including the business rules, dependencies, integrations and data behind them, so teams know what must be true for a journey to work safely and be migrated successfully. You will work closely with Product, Architecture and Engineering to reduce ambiguity, surface risks early and support confident delivery and the retirement of legacy systems.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and document business rules, customer and operational behaviours, and end-to-end process flows within your journey team
- Map dependencies, integrations and system interactions across legacy and target platforms, and expose cross-system risks early
- Capture data requirements, including data mapping and data flows between systems
- Write clear user stories and acceptance criteria and keep requirements traceable through to delivery
- Work with Product, Architecture and Engineering to resolve ambiguity and support design decisions
- Provide the analysis needed to support migration planning and legacy retirement
- Run workshops with stakeholders and subject matter experts to validate your understanding and agree scope

About You
- Proven experience as a Business Analyst on a platform migration, replatforming or legacy decommissioning programme
- Strong process modelling and documentation skills (BPMN/UML) using tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, Miro or Draw.io
- Experience analysing integrations and APIs, and reading interface specifications and architecture artefacts (REST, JSON/XML, Postman or Swagger)
- Working knowledge of SQL and data mapping or data modelling
- Experience writing user stories and acceptance criteria in an Agile environment using Jira and Confluence
- Confident working with senior stakeholders and technical teams, and comfortable challenging assumptions
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Business Analyst
- Retail, ecommerce or omnichannel experience is desirable
