Technical Business Development Manager - Band Saws

Location: Home-based, covering the Midlands & South of England

Salary: c£50,000 basic + £6,000 car allowance + up to 50% performance-related bonus

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Do you genuinely know bandsaws and bandsaw blades? You might already be an experienced Technical Sales Manager or Business Development Manager. Or you might spend your days operating bandsaws, welding blades, troubleshooting cutting problems, advising customers, selecting the right blade, or helping engineers get better performance from their machines.

Either way, we want to hear from you.

Hire Quality Talent is working exclusively with a leading international manufacturer of bandsaw blades, cutting solutions, and industrial tooling to appoint a Technical Business Development Manager covering the Midlands and South of England. For this appointment, your job title matters far less than your technical knowledge, personality, and ability to build relationships.

If you understand bandsaws and bandsaw blades but have never worked in sales, don't let that stop you from applying. For the right technically minded individual, this could be an opportunity to take years of practical knowledge and build a successful commercial career around it. Equally, if you're already an accomplished technical salesperson within bandsaws, cutting tools, metal cutting, or a closely related market, you'll have the opportunity to take genuine ownership of a territory and develop significant new business.

The Opportunity

You'll take responsibility for developing Band Saw business across the Midlands and South of England, working with weld centers, distributors, and directly with industrial end users. This is a hands-on, customer-facing position. You'll spend your time visiting engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, and metalworking businesses, understanding what they're cutting, identifying problems, and helping customers find a better solution.

Conversations could involve:

  • Bandsaw blade selection and applications
  • Materials and cutting requirements
  • Tooth pitch and blade specification
  • Cutting performance
  • Blade life and premature blade failure
  • Productivity and cost per cut
  • Trials and alternative cutting solutions
  • Troubleshooting poor cutting performance

The existing specification specifically requires someone capable of discussing materials, applications, blade selection, cutting performance, productivity, blade life, and cost per cut with customers. You don't need to know everything from day one. Comprehensive product training and ongoing technical support will be provided.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll develop relationships with engineers, production teams, purchasing professionals, business owners, distributors, and weld centers across your territory. Your role will include identifying potential customers, visiting industrial sites, understanding cutting applications, recommending appropriate products, and helping customers trial alternative solutions. You'll also:

  • Develop new end-user and distributor business
  • Support and strengthen existing distributor and weld-centre relationships
  • Conduct product demonstrations, blade trials, and technical evaluations
  • Help customers improve cutting performance, productivity, and blade life
  • Identify new applications and commercial opportunities
  • Build relationships from the shop floor through to senior decision-makers
  • Develop and manage your own sales pipeline
  • Plan and take ownership of your territory
  • Monitor competitor activity and opportunities within the market
  • Represent the business at customer meetings, exhibitions, and industry events

These responsibilities reflect the existing brief's emphasis on new business, end-user engagement, technical trials, distributor development, and territory ownership.

Who Could Be Right for This?

We're deliberately keeping an open mind.

You may already work in sales as a:

  • Technical Business Development Manager
  • Technical Sales Manager
  • Area Sales Manager
  • Sales Engineer
  • Applications Engineer
  • Cutting Tools Specialist or similar

OR

You might come from the technical side as a:

  • Bandsaw Machinist
  • Saw Technician
  • Weld Centre Technician
  • Service Engineer

  • Bandsaw Blade Specialist or experienced technical professional within sawing or metal cutting

If you're coming from the technical side, we're looking for someone who is comfortable with people, commercially minded, confident communicating with customers, and excited by the prospect of developing business. We can develop sales skills. What is much harder to teach overnight is years of genuine understanding of bandsaws, blades, cutting applications, and the problems customers face on the shop floor.

You'll be joining an established international manufacturer with the products, technical capability, and support behind you, while having genuine ownership of developing the market within your territory.

Never Worked in Sales? Please Don't Rule Yourself Out.

If you've spent years around bandsaws and blades and you're the person people come to when they need to know why a blade isn't performing, which blade to use, how to improve a cut, or how to get more from a machine, we'd genuinely like to speak with you. Your technical knowledge could be exactly what we're looking for.

Likewise, if you're already selling within the bandsaw or metal-cutting market and want greater territory ownership and earning potential, we'd love to hear from you.
